The Good
* Has the features of a sync tool and an FTP program in one.
* You can setup multiple automated tasks for each FTP account.
* The 'sync tool' part of the program allows for the use of filters.
* You can receive email notifications concerning your transfers.
* You can schedule sync tasks to occur at a designated time.
* You can have multiple sync tasks running at one time.
* You can set the program to run a sync based on if the contents of a folder is modified (event based scheduler).
The Bad
* Sync part of the program does not work if you installed it as a service.
* The FTP part of the program (FTP explorer) is noticeably slow.
* You can't use third party editing tools like Notepad++ for the FTP explorer.
* Sync automatically occurs after you create the task.
* Drag + drop does not work.
* When you save a file after editing it, it is automatically is uploaded to your FTP server (if you loaded it from there).
* The demo video that comes with the program is of an older version.
* You can't highlight and select multiple different tasks - you have to start them individually.
* Scheduler is turned on by default.
* "Synchronize" is not very smart.
* Event based scheduler can only monitor a local folder.

Since one of FTPGetter's main abilities is the sync tool, here are two sync tools that can sync with FTP servers:

Titan Backup 1.5 (has a sync tool built in)
Verdict:
The idea behind FTPGetter is pretty good. However, as I mentioned earlier, I feel the sync tool is underdeveloped and the FTP tool is underdeveloped, leading to an undesirable program. Not to mention the bug of the sync tool not working if you install FTPGetter as a service. Thumbs down for FTPGetter. My recommendation for today is the following: for an FTP tool, I only say FileZilla because that is what I use. It is tested and it works. However other FTP tools like CoreFTP LE and FTP Commander are also good choices - it just comes out to personal preference. Then combine whatever FTP tool you chose with either SyncBack or Titan Backup (if you prefer simple sync, go Titan; advanced go SyncBack). The combination of two software will give you the most of the functionality of FTPGetter but with programs that run a lot better.

FTP server profile set-up process consists of the three basic steps:
1. Set up Connection parameters: server address, user name and password, used protocol (standard or secure SSL/TLS), connection type (direct or via proxy-server).
2. Create Automation Tasks: uploading files and folders from local discs to server or downloading files and folders from server to local discs. Each task has additional options - comparison of files before uploading and downloading, saving file modification time, synchronizing folder structure, deleting successfully processed files at the source side etc. One of significant features of FTPGetter is file batch processing by mask, so that you can perform operations with multiple files with names that match certain criteria - e.g. upload to server only files with html extension or download from server all files except images in bmp format.
3. Adjust the Scheduler - customize weekdays when profile tasks will be processed, processing start-up and finish time, frequency of performance.

1. Run FTPGetter.
2. Press Ctrl+K when in the main window (or in the nag-screen). Pressing this keyboard shortcut will open a folder for the program in Windows Explorer.
3. Put the file ftpgetter3.lic which is included in the package into the FTPGetter application folder (see point 2).
4. Restart the program. If you use FTPGetter as a Windows service, then just restart the FTPGetter launcher service.
5. To view the license information, open the 'About...' dialog. To do this, select Help on the main menu and choose About.
To activate FTPGetter 3.11
Click ftpgetter3.lic. Choose move this file ----> Local Disk (C:) ----> Documents and Settings ----> Application Data ----> FTPGetter and click move button. Close and restart the program. Voila, your FTPGetter 3.11 is now registered!

De bug-fix versie (upgrade zie #14) door FTPGetter beschikbaar gesteld heeft geen GOTD-datum check en dus altijd te installeren (vergeten in de haast en niet door GOTD beschikbaar gesteld, maar direct door de makers zelf).
De .lic's zijn gelijk.
@Pieter-6: heb je nog geprobeerd? Wat was het resultaat?

Het .lic bestandje is een xml-bestandje, leesbaar maar kun je verder niks mee (zeker niet wijzigen).
@Kevin:
Als app. opgestart is (staat ook in readme, maar goed dat is Engels) kun je met [ctrl]+[K] een folder openen waar het .lic bestand moet terechtkomen. Beetje anders dan je gewend bent, je kunt nergens gewoon S/N invoeren.
De folder die opent kun je ook bereiken (voor als de shortkey ^K niet werkt of bezet is) door in de runbox te typen:
%appdata%\FTPGetter
.lic werkt alleen met deze GOTD-versie dus niet upgraden! (er is een nieuwere versie op de home-site)

Ehm, @Kevin, volgens mij moet je eerst alles installeren. daarna, indien het activeren mislukt is, zou je toch die .lic kunnen openen

Misschien heb je ervaren dat FXP disabled was op de hostingserver. Dit is om FTP-bounce tegen te gaan. Bij FXP stuur je data tussen 2 servers en stuur je vanaf je PC alleen controlsignalen (soort remote FTP als het ware, geen data op je pc als intermediair)
Dat is ook de reden dat het tooltje bij "#8@all" niet altijd zal werken. Vaak is FXP disabled.
Ik kan verder niks bedenken. Ik hoor nog wel of het je lukt.

Handige tool voor wie veel met FTP werkt. Lijkt me hetzelfde als IDM (Internet Download Manager), maar dan voor FTP. (IDM is voor http)
In het bijbehorend flashfilmpje wordt alles goed uitgelegd als je er niet mee vertrouwd bent.
Ook handig, mogelijkheid om een batch-bestand ervoor en erachter automatisch op te starten(vb na bacuppen, computer afsluiten).

Ik weet niet anders dan dat het FTP (File Transfer Protocol) in het geding is en wellicht nog een kanaal met controlsignalen.
Maar goed ik ben benieuwd, altijd leerzaam.

ALs jij met jouw FTP-tool kunt wat je wilt en je vind dat fijn werken heb je groot gelijk om het daarbij te houden.
Op de beschrijving afgaand (niet geprobeerd nog) heeft deze tool als sterke kant scheduling en het gebruik van masks om je werk te kunnen verfijnen. Kan best handig zijn, maar als jouw tool dat ook kan of je hebt dat niet nodig, wat jij wilt, altijd jouw eigen keuze.

Nu het over controlkanalen ging, hier is een freeware alt die ook iets afwijkends kan (FTP tussen 2 ftp-servers):

Pieter, Brillie, eigenlijk is dat ook mijn vraag. Ik bedoel: je begint met een nieuw programma, dat je ook nog es eerst moet leren kennen, je moet ervaren of de servers van de websites het accepteren...een heleboel gedoe dus.
Daarom vraag ik me dan af of het winst is om al die moeite voor een nieuw progje te doen. Begin je net met een website, dan is het de moeite misschien wel waard.
Nou, ik weet het antwoord voor mezelf al: gewoon verder gaan met die ouwe vertrouwde FTP van me. Die heeft me in al die jaren nog nooit in de steek gelaten en die was,is en blijft ook nog es gratis ook. :)

@Brillie: volgens mij is het iets met een protocol wat geblokkeerd wordt. Hoe dat precies zit weet ik ook niet, maar ik wilde pas iets uit een database in Excel inlezen en dat lukte ook niet. Volgens mij is er een protocol dat ook door hackers gebruikt wordt en daarom dus niet 'los gezet' wordt. Maar of dat in relatie staat tot deze geautomatiseerde procedure? Ik weet het niet. Ik ga het straks even proberen...

FTP is tussen 2 kanten, de server (vaak niet van jou) en je pc.
Dit progje is bedoeld voor op je pc toch?

Je kan op je eigen pc schedulen wat je wilt, niemand houdt je tegen.
Mijn vraag nu (zie Pieter, #1):
Als "automatisch backuppen wordt door veel hostingproviders nl. afgesloten" klopt, hoe 'weet' die hostingprovider dan dat je iets gescheduled (automatisch) hebt en niet handmatig iets backupped?
Een serieuze vraag, ik weet het niet of mis ik iets?

Nou, de installatie is gelukt met key en al.
Ik wil graag uitproberen of het progr. voordelen boven het gebruikelijke FTP 'apparaatje' biedt. Veel meer dan uploaden hoef ik er niet mee te doen. Vraag: heeft het dan wel zin om van FTP te veranderen ? Ben benieuwd naar de mening van de ervaringsdeskundigen.
Enne pa van Kevin, zeg daar maar es nee tegen ! Als Kevin het handig vindt, ís het handig hoor ! Wij kennen Kevin héél goed ! :D :D

Goedemorgen allemaal,
als ik het begrijp kun je dus je FTP-server en thuiscomputer synchroniseren en evt. backuppen? Da's ideaal, want van de week raakte ik door drukte op de server nogal wat gegevens kwijt :(
Iemand ervaring met dit progje? En moet je FTP-server ook speciale rechten hebben? (automatisch backuppen wordt door veel hostingproviders nl. afgesloten).
