@25, in de map rmb zit het programma rmb.exe.
rmb = recovery media builder. Daarmee kan je een usb-stick of cd/dvd mee maken om je computer bij problemen weer op te starten.

Dat is dus iets wat je kort na de installatie moet uitvoeren.

En als je altijd backups gemaakt hebt en je harddisk crasht? Dan ben je dit geïnstalleerde programma toch ook kwijt en kun je geen backup terugzetten?

@17, met MicrosoftFixit.ProgramInstallUninstall.Run.exe
heb ik het programma verwijderd. Voor de zekerheid heb ik de gevraagde opstart na het installeren niet uitgevoerd. Het bovengenoemde de-installatieprogramma zorgde zelf voor een herstart en liet alleen wat kleine bestanden na. Die kon ik met de hand wissen. En de restjes met CCleaner.

@20; in de map waar het programma zelf staan, zie ik een heel stel .exe-bestanden.

217: zie geen uninstall.exe. En ook Ccleaner toont het programma niet in de lijst van te verwijderen programma's.
Ik had het eerst in de zandbak gezet. En daar kon ik de mappen gewoon wissen. maar bij de echte installatie is een herstart nodig. Op internet speurend kwam ik opmerkingen tegens als zou het programma het MBR (master boot record) wijzigen. In het MBR staat een allereerste programmaatje dat bij het opstarten wordt uitgevoerd. Gewoon wissen zal het MBR niet in de oude staat herstellen. Je kan blijven zitten met een foutmelding, die ik zag ook tips hoe die te herstellen.

Google op mbr herstellen en lees de hits zorgvuldig door voordat je het programma wist.

@14: had ik ook, later niet meer. Misschien is de site tijdelijk even uit de lucht geweest.

Bevat dit progje wel een exe-file? Als ik het geinstalleerd heb kan ik nergens een exe vinden en is het dus ook geen 2e keer op te starten.

Zelf heb ik nog de versie 10 hiervan. Wordt deze 10.5 eroverheen geschreven? Als het antwoord nee is dan begin ik er niet aan.

Dacht er ook ineens aan dat gelijk met mijn probleem of iets ervoor het scherm meldde: Note: Fail to mount the Visial Paertition, Error code: 6. Zou er een verband zijn?
En hoe doe je dat alsnog "mounten". Is dat een iets makkelijker vraaag voor onze super deskundigen dan mijn Winsock, die wel hersteld is maar nog steeds geen toegang geeft tot welke site ook. Dank u.

Enig idee hoe dit programma te deïnstalleren ? Het komt niet voor in de geïnstalleerde programma's en het verwijderen van het programma uit de Program Files wordt geweigerd omdat het programma 'aan het werk' is.

Volgens de internationale site is het een GFED:

You will need to keep MSI installation file for future use. It will be extracted from GAOD’s exe file, and this exe file can be used only today. Also you will need to get serial number today.
With MSI installation and serial number you can reinstall System Backup anytime later :-)

Die Linuxgebaseerde backupcd (of DVD) is goud waard.
Mijn tip: installeren en die cd branden.
Wel heb ik een vraag. Blijft die cd dan onbeperkt bruikbaar?

Volgens mij heb ik met Acronis wel eens gehad dat zo'n cd na een jaar niet meer geldig was (was (achteraf) denk ik te omzeilen door de BIOSdatum even terug te zetten)

Ik gebruik een oudere versie van Paragon System Backup al lange tijd. Als Windows niet meer opstart, of je PC abnormaal opstart, en je geen tijd wil verliezen met allerlei recovery-tools (die vaak toch falen), gebruik dan Paragon System Backup. Dat neemt snapshots van je systeem, en heeft mij al meer dan eens gered. (Win 7 64 bit).
Heel erg bedankt Paragon en GOTD.

@Sepp. It is 162MB because the download includes an ISO image of a recovery CD that includes a complete operating system and the program that you can boot into for recovery if your Windows installation is completely hosed. You can delete the image file after you burn the CD.

@steve. WinPE stands for Windows Preinstallation Environment. It is a boot\installation environment from Microsoft. It is usually not included in free products because of licensing.

As far as I can see this GAOTD is once again (exactly as yesterday with regard to Wondershare Slideshow software) a LIMITED VERSION of the original program, since features like restore Windows OS to a different hardware configuration and file increment backup are not available in this GAOTD. Is that right??

Well, i believe that it's a shame that developers of nice programs like today's giveaway often use this website to launch their flagship products and then begging us to buy the full version if we want to enjoy all the features misleadingly mentioned here on their slurp.

After all, our task here is or better yet should be to test their original products, so as to give their developers some tips and suggestions in order to improve their software, by quoting better freeware alternatives if necessary as I usully do here almost on a daily basis...

And anyway 162 MB for a (limited) backup software is simply ridiculous in my view.

As FREE ALTERNATIVE, besides cool disk imaging software like MACRIUM REFLECT and/or DriveImage XML, I recommend you "Comodo Time Machine", which uses a different approach for backup purposes, since it quickly restores your PC to an earlier point in time by taking a snapshot of your entire system (including the registry, critical operating system files and user created documents) with two mouse clicks.

As a home user, I'm wasting a whooping 9 MB disk space using:

drivexml (3 MB): backup partitions. (Install includes also 2 MB for ShadowCopy.)

treecomp (2 MB): versatile synchronisation tool.

syncback (4 MB): for regular (i.e. automated) backup tasks, using advanced profiles.

If you wish, you can run them from a USB drive (no install means no clutter and less disk space to backup ;).

There's also clonezilla (disk imaging and cloning) , but disk size doesn't matter since it runs from CD or USB.

For those who don't backup and can't wait for the next HDD disaster (myself included), they must have SystemRescueCD (Linux live CD). They may even use it for... backups. Nothing beats Linux HDD and file tools. Paragon has its own "Recovery Environment (Linux/DOS based)".

I noticed that recently there are no more reviews of GOTD products, only "Whoa" and similar useless comments.

Having a bit of time, let's say I can make a bit of a review... without installing the software.

Take, for instance, these features (see link given in #4) as seen on the Paragon web site:

This sounds too much complicated to me. Generally speaking, looks like you must have 2 different backups to benefit from all available features. Software has a kind of funny limitations. But it may be useful for some users, after all.

I am, paranoidly, imaging my system on my NAS 5 time a week, using Acronis, W7 and Paragon. But then I discovered that I could not recover from the NAS with the Paragon recovery CD. Finally I dropped it and moved to Macrium. Does the job adequately otherwise.
