Attention with http://freepicturesolutions.com/free-collage-maker.html (above as Free Collage Maker) as my AVG warned me about an unwanted application downloader and removed the threat, thus whatever was downloaded (ca. 266KB) from the site when clicking the download button. Thus no software to install. If your virus software does not warn you, install it if you are willing to take the risk. I wish people would not post links to softwares which they did not try themselves first, just to impress others as if they are experts at finding freebies.
Pearl Mountain Picture Collage Maker 4.1.2 is nothing but a clone of Amoyshare Photo Collage Maker 4.1.2 offered here last November 21st (or vice versa). You can read my comment there (post 9) about backgrounds, frames etc. usable in both programs.

The resource page (http://www.pearlmountainsoft.com/resource/) gives useful hints. The link leads to the "Pro" version, it installs a "standard" version.
Upon start an unneded splash screen to select different option, leads to the main window.
I selected a template ... Drag&Drop of pictures did not work on my computer:

The images should be placed in the free fields (drag photo here) and not stacked in the upper left corner. Tried twice - could not create a working collage.
Uninstalled via reboot.
Sorry Karl, you might have made a mistake somewhere somehow, here's what I did using the same template as yours, what you need to do is holding the picture with the right button of your mouse and release it exactly on top of the wordings "Drop Photo Here" and the picture will place and accommodate itself just fine like you see on the sample here, also notice the windows application title, it says Picture Collage Maker Pro, just to add to the general findings and participation here.

Je mag best aan mij twijfelen; ik maak regelmatig fouten en de laatste tijd meer typo's. Vingers en hersenen lopen niet in de zelfde pas. En het houd mij scherp.
Vertalingen zijn soms een crime: zoals worteldirectorie.
Of een klant aan de telefoon: die was zijn boom kwijt op de PC. Het duurde behoorlijk lang, voordat er een kwartje viel(mappenstructuur in de verkenner).

@ Ootje gisteren, sorry dat ik even aan je twijfelde.
Het is wel humor, ook die postzegel :-)
Ik zei het al eens eerder, dit soort dingen zijn voor mij een reden om de Engelse versie van programma's te gebruiken, niet omdat ik die taal zo goed beheers maar meer omdat die tenminste nog een beetje consequent zijn in benoemen van functies.
Ik herinner me "grasduinen" als vertaling van "browse" in een oude lotus 123 en "rasterlijnen magnetisch maken" voor "snap to grid" in een oude Corel draw en vind de Engelse versie dan toch net even lekkerder klinken en in gebruik zelfs begrijpelijker.
ik had ook ooit een duits programma waar "undo" vertaald was in "rückgängig machen" of zoiets en "redo" in "rückgängig machen zurück" en dan krijg ik toch echt de kriebels ... :-(
Het "moderne" automatisch vertalen doet aan dit alles natuurlijk ook geen goed ;-)
