Tried installing under Vista SP2+ and the installer threw an error "Failed to set data for 'NoDrives'"
dismissing the error box left the installer stuck at extracting Fileoperation.DLL with only remaining option to Cancel, Pressing Cancel then brings up a Tips box
"Exit Setup is not complete, If you exit now, the program will not be installed. You may run setup another time to complete the installation. Exit Setup?"
With Yes and No buttons pressing Yes in these cases usually rolls back the installation, removing the files and settings installed up to that point. But it does not it leaves the start menu entries and program files folder intact.
I am still able to run the program and register it using the license code provided in the readme.txt file in the giveaway zip bundle.
I could have found a use for this were it not for one thing. It is restricted to a very small subset of document types! Just DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, PPT, PDF not PPTX nor any other type of document. I cannot find any way to add other document types like .XML or .WPS or .RTF or .TXT or .OD?
This software relies upon windows vista and above protected locations file virtualisation as the setup.ini and FileCache.dat where the database of indexed documents is stored are both saved in the C:\Program Files\WonderFox Soft\Document Manager\ folder instead of the proper location in %APPDATA%\WonderFox Soft\Document Manager\ which is write enabled for non-admin users. The installer they provide from their website is not properly configured to request Admin rights like all installers should.
More work needs to be done to improve the functionality like adding user definable document types and fixing the installer and the proper use of per user appdata\roaming\ hierarchy.
